Wuhan East Lake

One of the most popular recreational and historical sights within China’s famed Hubei Province is the majestic vista offered by Wuhan East Lake. This large, pristine lake is situated an almost idyllic setting. Because of its size and beauty, Wuhan East Lake lures visitors from all around China and is earning a reputation with those from around the world as well. The unparalleled views of water, pristine and pure, surrounded by tree-lined banks with backdrops of hill country or mountains looks as if it were conjured out of a dream. Established by the government in 1982, this park, or recreation area, consists of around 87 kilometers of unmatched natural beauty. The lake itself is over 33 kilometers, and features all sorts of aquatic activities for visitors of all ages.

Locals are said to visit Wuhan East Lake to refresh their spirits in the calm, serene atmosphere of water reflecting the natural beauty that frames its rounded banks. Due to the many different types of trees and the varying slope of the land surrounding the lake, views can range drastically, offering panoramas anywhere from pastoral to rugged. At every turn you will find a new facet of this beautiful aquatic jewel that nature has put in an ideal setting and which the Chinese were wise enough to preserve in its native state for the enjoyment of their people, and luckily for visitors, for tourists, as well.

Because the park is large, it is divided into areas and maps are available to visitors. The six different areas each offer a different view of the lake. Given lyrical names, the sections have titles such as, White Horse, Fallen Wild Goose and Mill Hill. The Chinese government has gone to the trouble of installing pavilions and observation towers for the use and enjoyment of visitors to the Lake and its surroundings.

The lake is more than just a recreational facility. It is an example of the Chinese government’s commitment to the preservation and protection of the natural spaces. Visitors who take a day, or more, to visit Wuhan East Lake will not be disappointed by the efforts of their hosts.
