Wuhan
Wuhan is an important tourist stopover in China, because of its rich cultural heritage as well as its location. It is the capital of Hubei province and has seen a lot of development lately and thus is a perfect mix of ancient as well as modern sites to offer to a keen traveler.
Geography
Genetically speaking, Wuhan is located right in the centre of the Hubei province, with the cardinals as 113°41′ East and 29°58′North, at the merger of the famous Hanshui River and the Yangtze River. It is generally to the east of Jianghan Plains region.
The city is a mix of plains (in the centre) as well as the hilly regions (in the south). The Han and Yangtze rivers meander through
the city makes it very picturesque.
Wuhan has an area of approximately 8494.41 km2, which is mostly in the
plains. It is also decorated with hills to the south and boasts of a number of pools and lakes.
Historical facts
The city comprises three parts – the Wuchang, the Hanyang, and the Hankou. “Wuhan” gets its name from all three – combination of “Wu” from Wuchang city and the “Han” from others. Is the cities were consolidated in be 1927 thus establishing Wuhan.
Initially these three cities were separated from each other by the rivers and after the consolidation, have been linked by bridges, which include the “First Bridge” which is called so because it was the first modern type of bridges constructed in China.
Tourist attractions
As mentioned above, there are a number of lakes in the city, which may interest the tourists. The East Lake is famous for its beautiful surroundings and can make an excellent picnic spot. The city also has a number of other attractions such as Jiquing Street, Yellow Crane Tower, or the Lute Platform. For those with the historical bent of mind the Hubei Provincial Museum would be an ideal choice. It is one of the most famous museums of China and has over 200000 relics from the past. It goes back into time and gives an interesting glimpse of history of the ancient China.
Wuhan thus offers one of the ideal options for the tourists who are interested in sightseeing as well as history of ancient China.
