The Shanghai Ocean Aquarium which was opened in the year 2002 is the largest in Asia. It is a new concept and the biggest and the best aquarium of its kind. Located at Pudong, next to Oriental Pearl TV Tower, it has more than 10,000 creatures of the sea which come from almost all the continents. The aquarium has 28 areas of display which contain jelly fish, sharks, sea otters, turtles and many more. The centre of attraction is a huge glass observation which is worth millions. There are provisions for adventure loving tourists to dive in the shark tank.

The aquarium has been built in 20,500 sq meters of area. It is a joint investment of US$50 million by China’s China Poly Group and Straco Corporation Limited of Singapore. The Shanghai Ocean Aquarium has over a million visitors every year from all parts of the world and this number has been consistent from the year of its opening.

The aquarium has a collection of underwater species from four oceans and five continents. It has been divided into different thematic zones. The efforts have been targeted to provide to the aquatic creatures the best possible natural surroundings. This has also been done to let the visitors know about the beauty located in different parts of their world. The aquarium has a separate zone which comprises of the precious and rare species from the Yangtze River.

The visitors get a fascinating journey of underwater across the world beginning from Yangtze River. The next in line are the mysteries of the forests of Amazon in South Africa. Australia comes next and in this way you get to see the beauty which is normally impossible to find. The noticing fact is about the zones which include Giant Salamander, Chinese sturgeon, Spotted seals, Sand Tiger Sharks and some others.
