The ancient civilization is better understood with the displays of the bronze ware of the Shang and Zhou dynasties. The Chinese art of bronze present there encompasses the history of Chinese art.
The collection of the ceramics at the Shanghai Museum belongs to different dynasties. It is a real treasure there. The potteries on display are beautifully painted. There are more than 500 pieces of such work from the Neolithic age and other times in the past. The museum has calligraphy and paintings with deep national styles and traditions. There are great creations from different periods.
Buddhist sculptures are the main focus of the ancient Chinese Sculpture. The collection of jade wares had lively patterns and brilliant colors. This was a symbol of power and wealth and looks very elegant.
The times of the Ming and Qing dynasties were very popular for the style of furniture used. A simple furniture like a chair depicted Chinese culture and mannerism. Another important part of the museum is the gallery of Chinese Seals. One can understand how important the seals were in those times.
The Gallery of Chinese Coins tells us about the usage of currency during the old times in China. China started using currency early. There are around 7,000 pieces of coins in the gallery. It also depicts the exchange of economy between China and other part of the world.
In its history, China had minority nationalities that had their own cultures. The styles of their work in sculptures, lacquer, textiles, pottery and bamboo work easily show the creativity of those minority groups. It would be better for a person to go and have a look at the vivid ancient Chinese creations than talking about them. The Museum is a great place to cherish the Chinese culture.
