Temple of Heaven
China’s largest and ancient sacrificial Temple of Heaven (Altar of Heaven) is located in the southern part of Beijing. The Existing complex of building coverings the area of around 273 hectares. In fact this temple was build for the emperors of that time in 1420 A.D during the sovereignty of Yongle emperor. This was also considered as Taoist temple and was annually visited by sovereigns of the Qing and Ming dynasties for the good harvest. Main buildings of this temple are: Imperial Vault of heaven, Circular Mound Altar and Altar of Prayer for Good Harvest.
Moreover the Altar of prayer for Good Harvest building is 38 meters in its height while its diameter is 30 meters. This building is standing on a foundation that is round in shape. It is also having a cone formed smooth and shiny finished tile roof in blue color. On the other hand, The Circular Mound Altar part of the temple where rulers came to pray and is having a round shaped stone in the center which is known as the Center of Heaven Stone. This is a symbolic temple where earth is symbolized by a square while the heaven by a circle.
Moreover, temple is bordered by the historic pine forest. Temple’s overall plan and design is representing a relation between the two objects earth and heaven. This temple was placed in the list of the world heritage in 1998. This region of China was ruled around more than 2,000 years by the different feudal rulers. And you can see their influence strongly in this masterpiece of construction (Temple of Heaven).
